It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. John tried to dissuade him: It is I who needs baptism from you.

As soon as Jesus came up from the water, the heavens open and he saw the Spirit of God descending, dove- like, and coming down on him. And a voice spoke from heaven:

This is my Son the beloved, my favour rest on him.

The First Baptisms

Peter spoke to them for a long time using many arguments. “What must we do?” They asked.

You must repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

They were convinced by his arguments and were baptised. That day about three thousand were added to their number.

The disciples went as a body to the Temple every day but met in their houses for the Breaking of the Bread; they shared their food gladly and generously. Day by day the Lord added to their community those destined to be saved, Acts 2:41.
Saint Paul baptizes a whole family.

The miraculous escape from the prison of Paul and Silas. They preached the word of the Lord to the goaler and to all his family. Then and there they were baptized… the whole family celebrated their conversion to belief in God. Acts 16:40.
